Montreal

Montreal is a dynamic metropolis with around 1.7 million inhabitants and almost 4.1 million in its metropolitan area. Spanning 431 km², it is situated on an island bordered by the St. Lawrence River.  The city is home to several world-renowned universities, including McGill and Université de Montréal. Every year, Montreal attracts some 11 million visitors for over 1,000 events. Well served by Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau airport and a network of public transportation, it is also a linguistic crossroads, with 60% of its population speaking French.

In winter, Montreal is transformed into a winter wonderland as temperatures plummet and snow blankets the city. With its festive atmosphere and snow-covered landscapes, Montreal offers a multitude of assets to make the most of winter. Winter sports enthusiasts will be delighted by the many nearby ski and snowboard slopes, such as those at Mont-Saint-Bruno and Mont-Tremblant. Montreal also plays host to high-profile sporting events, such as figure skating and ice hockey competitions.

1. Outdoor Activities

Mount Royal Park, with its hiking trails and cross-country ski tracks, is a must-see. Skating enthusiasts can also head to the famous Beaver Lake, where a natural ice rink welcomes visitors.

2. Culture and Gastronomy

The winter months are perfect for exploring Montreal's rich cultural scene. Museums, such as the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art, offer captivating exhibitions. Meanwhile, restaurants serve comforting dishes typical of Quebec's winter, like poutine or pea soup.

Note: In Montreal, tipping is common and is part of the service culture.

It is customary to leave a tip of 15 to 20% of the bill before taxes.

Tipping is a gesture of appreciation for good service, but it remains at your discretion. If the service is not satisfactory, you can adjust the amount accordingly.
